About Me:
I am a freelance writer, photographer, website designer, and editor. I review books and music for a variety of publications, and write a social justice column for a local paper called Our Voice, sold on the streets by people trying to make ends meet. I am also the editor of Boyle McCauley News, a community newspaper focussing on the happenings in the inner city neighbourhoods of Boyle and McCauley.
I am also a musician and songwriter who plays guitar, mandolin, flute, and I attempt to sing. I play in a band that performs at houses of worship and conferences around the city. As a solo artist, I write and record acoustic music about life, love, and social issues.
Speaking of social issues, I am passionate about peace, justice, fighting poverty, and media literacy. To that end, I am involved in several grassroots organizations such as the Edmonton Small Press Association, Edmonton Coalition Against War and Racism (ECAWAR), Council of Canadians, and the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters. I attend rallies and activist events, documenting them with my camera for a growing website, RaiseMyVoice.com.
Besides writing, music, and social action, I enjoy reading, walking, cycling, hanging out in coffee shops, collecting CDs of ethnic and folk music, and trying out different kinds of ethnic food. I am leaning heavily in a vegetarian direction.
I have a blog where I tend to focus on the professional and artistic sides of my life, which is also updated on a regular basis.
